Community Based - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country BBBS Volunteer Application

PROGRAM

PROGRAM

Community Based

In the Community Program, we match volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) with youth(“Littles”). These matches spend time enjoying activities together approximately three times a month. During these outings, they cultivate a relationship that supports the Little in developing skills to manage everyday challenges and build self-confidence.

We serve any youth, aged 5-18, in our service area who could benefit from positive adult role model (hint: we think this is ANY youth!). A volunteer Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple, or Big Family becomes a friend to the child and the relationship is supported by professional staff at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Through simple friendship, Bigs experience the joy of helping youth discover a world of possibilities and opportunities.

National research has shown that positive relationships between Littles and their Bigs have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives. By participating in our programs, Little Brothers and Sisters are:

  • more confident in their schoolwork performance
  • able to get along better with their families
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school
